James arrived in Australia on board one of the last
convict ships, the "Adelaide".

He was transported for stealing copper pipe.
He went on to become a respectable business man

living in Eden and Pericoe where he farmed
and traded wattle bark.
All the local Loves are descendants of
James and his first 2 wives, Mary Madesson Hite and Ellen.
His 3rd wife was Matilda Newlyn, daughter of
Mr. & Mrs. F.J. Newlyn of Nethercote who
was in her early 30's when he was 66.
