Hello Kate,
I was looking through the Beasley information
and other family information on your site
and came across to me what looks like the
Wedding photo of Albert Ernest Brotherton
& Myrtle May Hunt (reg Collins). They
married in the Bombala district in 1912.
- NSW BDM Index Reg No: 9254/1912 BROTHERTON
ALBERT E COLLINS MYRTLE M BOMBALA. The photo
- Back - Albert (Alby) Hunt (reg Collins)
- Eldest brother of Myrtle May; Ellen May
"Ellie" Brotherton - a younger
sister of Albert Ernest (Alby) Brotherton;
Albert Ernest (Alby) Brotherton; Myrtle May
(Hunt - registered Collins) Brotherton &
William Henry "Willie" Brotherton.
Ellie. Alby & Willie Brotherton all children
of William Henry Brotherton & Mary Jane
(Yelds) Brotherton.
Albert & Myrtle May Hunt (Brotherton)
both registered originally as Collins as
when Albert was born in Bendoc, Victoria
in 1891 his mother Edith was only 14 yrs
old and when Myrtle was born she was 16 yrs
old.
Edith's parents John Richard Collins &
Mary Jane Crane "aka Armstrong"
were both deceased. Mary Jane an Irish Famine
Orphan (my 2nd grt
grandmother) died in Bombala in January 1883
and John died in July 1889, Little Bills
nr Bendoc, Victoria. According to my maternal
grandmother Edna Doris Roberts (Tindall)
who was told by Maude (Collins) Douch (my
great grandmother and an elder sister of
Edith (Collins) Hunt) the two children were
taken into one of the Collins families and
reared with their children.
Myrtle kept her registered name of Collins
but Albert (Alby) took their
father's surname of Hunt. Edith and Stephen
John Hunt married
officially in 1898.
691/1898 HUNT STEPHEN COLLINS EDITH BOMBALA
- .
On the Australia Electoral Roll, NSW 1913
- Bega - Pericoe - Edith and Stephen Hunt
were residing at Lett's Creek. Her Sister
Maude
(Collins) Douch and her husband John Henry
Douch were living at Pericoe, also. By 1930
Stephen "Steve" and Edith "Edie"
were settled with their nine remaining children
in the Cobargo district and it was here that
Stephen died in 1948 and Edith in 1948.
I do have information on the Brotherton/Hunt/Collins
family link and also have Brotherton links
to the Monaro side of this family with my
dad's Douch/Ingram side of his grt grand
aunt Mary Susan Douch's marriage to John
Thomas Ingram of Bombala - they had a family
of twelve children and were married in 1859.
Some of the family information Ian Harvey
has on the Monaro Pioneers site comes from
a ged file I sent to David Smith about 2006.
Tindall, Douch, etc.
Last night I also found out that Myrtle Mary
"May" (Hunt - "aka Collins")
and Albert Ernest Brotherton between 1943-
1954 they moved from Road View, Bombala to
Rand, Cathcart, where the resided until they
moved into High Street Bega between 1963-1968
with their youngest daughter Marlene Myrtle
Brotherton. Myrtle & Ernest raised a
family of thirteen children -
Wilfred Charles Stephen Brotherton - 1913-1965
;
Dorothy Edith Brotherton - 1915-1936 ;
Herbert John Albert Brotherton - 1917-1936;
Florance May Brotherton - 1918-1991;
William Clive Brotherton - 1920-2002;
Norma Joan Brotherton - 1921-1996;
Avery Frances Brotherton - 1924-Living;
Laurence Frederick Brotherton - 1925-1966;
Ronald Alfred Brotherton - 1927-1979;
Harold Neville Brotherton - 1929-1998;
Barbara Mary Brotherton - 1931-2010;
Rose Dawn Brotherton - 1936-Living;
Marlene Myrtle Brotherton - 1938-Living.
I also have another reason to research this
family as Avery Frances Brotherton and my
grt uncle James Ivan Tindall had a daughter
Dianne Joy "Joy" in 1945. Unfortunately,
grt uncle James "Jim" never made
it home to Australia after WW2. The RAAF
plane he was travelling back to Australia
in crashed into the mountainous area of New
Guinea in Sept 1945 where it remained lost
until discovered in the 1970's. Whether grt
uncle Jim knew of his daughter "Joy"
we will never know. The Tindall family have
only known of "Joy" being in our
family since 2013.
I also mentioned that Albert Ernest Brotherton's
parents were William Henry Brotherton &
Mary Jane Yelds - 6082/1886
BROTHERTON
WILLIAM F
YELDS
MARY J
BOMBALA. Mary Jane (Yelds) & William
Henry Brotherton had a family of thirteen
children, to my knowledge. After William's
wife Mary Jane (Yelds) died on 23 July 1926,
Bombala, NSW. William remarried in 1927 to
Charlotte Spence. To my knowledge there was
no issue from this marriage.
I hope this information may be some help
to someone.
Please feel free to share the Brotherton-Hunt
"aka Collins" family information
on your site.
regards,
Valma Hick
